Our story

We started in 2013 as a small software company offering consumers a simpler, easier alternative to healthcare.gov. Since then, we have grown into the largest and fastest-growing individual health coverage exchange in the United States, simplifying access to health plans from both federal and state marketplaces.

We quickly realized the majority of individuals rely on knowledgeable agents to help them explore coverage options and have worked to develop the easiest, most efficient agent tools ever since. Our secure, integrated technology platform empowers insurance agents, agencies, and carriers to quickly and accurately serve and support individuals as they select and use quality, affordable health plans.

That said, we’re convinced our greatest strength lies in the diversity of our team and our commitment to providing the people we serve with innovative products, services, and experiences woven into a rich tapestry from each employee’s unique perspective.

Core Beliefs

We believe access to quality, affordable healthcare is a fundamental human right, healthcare is crucial for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and universal access is crucial for unlocking the full potential of our society.

Local agents play a key role in enrolling uninsured Americans – especially those from underserved populations – enabling longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives and driving economic stability. This community approach opens up new opportunities for individuals and families and reduces healthcare costs across the entire system.

We are caring.
We believe healthcare is a human right and understand health insurance is personal and can be confusing and overwhelming. We care about and advocate for individuals seeking quality, affordable healthcare and the agents and agencies working to serve them.
HealthSherpa_Icon_Insights_LightBlue
We are smart.
We know health insurance inside-and-out. We’ve read the fine print, know the government policy, and know which small details can make a big difference to people looking to balance health plan benefits and costs. We’re trusted experts who lead with transparency and humility.
HealthSherpa_Icon_Community_LightBlue
We are accessible.
Health insurance can be intimidating, so we aim to make it approachable. We communicate clearly so confusing, tedious topics are easy to understand. We respect and honor the people we serve and their diverse experiences in our language, our actions, our products, and our services. We're available when individuals or agents need support.
HealthSherpa_Icon_Innovation_Blue
We are innovative.
We’re a technology company, not an insurance company. Cutting-edge, not stodgy. Casual, not formal. Optimistic, bold, and audacious on our customers’ behalf. We’re not satisfied with the status-quo.

Our Commitment to Diversity

We're committed to building and fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment where we learn from each other, respect one another, and actively welcome and celebrate different lived experiences and identities.

In 2023, we initiated a partnership with Holistic, a DEI consultancy, to bring HealthSherpa’s emphasis on DEI into practice. We are excited and deeply motivated to build out programs and policies that will continually bring our commitment to DEI into our work with each other.
